Raúl Picaporte

Exploring Fantasies

Recorded in Robert Hunter-Rivera's bedroom over a three week period spanning 2001-2002, Exploring Fantasies was in some ways both a departure and a return to form for Raúl Picaporte. He had just criss-crossed the USA with a bastard muse, and had many a song bottled up to show as a result. Distorted riffs, abused woodwinds, metal pots'n'pans, alarm clocks, and cheesy synths adorn this evocative record, oh and Raúl and his guitar too!

The Moviegoers

Or The Gun

Featuring jangly guitars, upfront vocals, thick and spacey harmonies, and smart, soulful song-writing, Or The Gun represents The Moviegoers' most collaborative and complete piece of work to date. It's semi-soft and medium-hard.

Your Future in Plastics

The Code is Obvious

Before they started The Moviegoers, Richard Hunter-Rivera, Jessica Monday, and Jordan Heimer, along with Robert Hunter-Rivera, called themselves Your Future in Plastics, and they put out this EP, The Code is Obvious. Recorded over the course of one college semester, this EP is NOT beautifully digitally re-mastered but is instead presented in it's unadulterated lo-fi glory. The original track list contains a rare cover of Raúl Picaporte's masterful rock'n'roll album opener, "Dreaming or in Delirium?".

Harmonicas, a Buchla synthesizer, and electric buzzes are featured on this short suite of instrumental tape music. Organic and ambient, there's nothing else like it on Mangoose.

Another epic lo-fi musical collection from Raúl. Over two hours of music across three movments, Conversations with Prostitutes is considered by some to be Raúl's deepest, darkest, and most complete work. Themes of love and sex abound. It's romantic stuff kiddies! Written, recorded, and mixed by Mr. Picaporte while living and studying in Hong Kong.

Meg's Bistro

A musical journey through time-zones. Listening to Meg's Bistro is probably a lot like riding the Trans-Siberian Railway from start to finish. That's a lot of time zones! OK, it might not be that interesting. Perhaps Mangoose's quintessential release, Meg's Bistro features appearances by The Jinich Brothers, Jay Brockman, Richard and Robert Hunter-Rivera,and the inimitable flow of Manuel Santini.

Jay Brockman

Homogenous

A 4-track epic tale of a man inside a machine. His legs are flailing, but he's going no where. That is, until a friendly pirate offers Jay a ride...climb aboard mateeeys. We here at Mangoose consider Homogenous to be Jay's masterpiece. At least so far...comes with CDR copy of cassette.

Songs For a Girl

Described by my Dad to be Mangoose's "White Album" of sorts, Songs for a Girl is an epic collection of tunes dedicated to all the lovely ladies out there. Yeah, you know who you are...Anyway, SFG is an eclectic (I mean it this time) collection of songs featuring songs and performances by Raul Picaporte, Jay Brockman, Richard Hunter-Rivera, and Robert Hunter-Rivera.

On a Wire / ANYTIME

Recorded during the Summer of 2001 in Searcy, Arkansas and Shreveport, Louisiana, On a Wire (ANYTIME) represents the first full-length collaboration between Jay and Richard Hunter-Rivera of The Moviegoers. Armed with a pair of laptops, a couple beat boxes, some cheap microphones, a synthesizer, various guitars, and an air conditioner, the duo put in 16 hour days of music making for three weeks, and this is a record of what happened. By the way, don't ever go to Arkansas in July.

Popsicle Illusion

The first collaboration between Jay Brockman and Raul Picaporte. Recorded to four-track in Jay's humid San Juan rooftop apartment. When they first showed it to the rest of us, we were floored. In a way, Popsicle Illusion started it all...
